What To Expect:
Swab Test

I. Nasopharyngeal Swab Tests

1

Hi-Rx specializes in making things convenient for you! We will assist you in scheduling your appointment at a time and location that work for you. We encourage you to prepare a location that promotes your comfort and privacy.

2

Please prepare your identification card (ex: passport, driver’s license). This will help us verify your physician's order.

3

Your Hi-Rx Care Specialist will prepare the materials for your specimen collection. Once everything is set, your Care Specialist will ask you to stay still & start the collection. If this is for a child, the child may need to be gently held by a parent or guardian, to remain still for the collection. The sterile swab will need to rest at the back of your nasal passage for a few seconds in order to absorb secretions. This may cause momentary discomfort, but you should still be able to talk and breathe normally.

4

After taking the sample, your Care Specialist will place the swab in a tube. The tube will have your information and will be stored appropriately for transport. From your home, the sample will be taken directly to a lab, where it will be tested.

5

The turnaround time is dependent on the laboratory, but typically you can expect your results within two to three days. Once the lab has processed your sample, the results will be communicated directly to your ordering physician. For your privacy, Hi-Rx does not have access to your results, however, a member of our team will always be happy to follow up with the lab to check the status of your results.
